UAIC network usage regulation for students
The data communications network of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași is a network that operates strictly for educational purposes in accordance with the Security Plan and Policy approved by the University Senate.
This network is intended to support the process of education and scientific research and is not intended to provide staff and students with access to the Internet. Since access to educational and research resources is provided through the Internet, Internet services can be accessed through the University network within reasonable limits, without performance guarantees and under the conditions specified in the Security Plan and Policy, which are mandatory regulations for obtaining an institutional account.
1. Access and authentication
- Access to the university network is based on individual authentication, using the institutional account in the format:
first-name.last-name; - The account is personal and non-transferable;
- Users are directly responsible for all activities carried out after authentication from any device.
2. Wireless connection and equipment usage
- Wireless access
- Wireless access on campus is provided exclusively though the eduroam network.
- To connect, you must use your institutional account in the format:
first-name.last-name@uaic.ro. - Creating personal Wi-Fi networks using routers is prohibited.
- Personal equipment and infrastructure
- Installing personal network equipment is prohibited, except for 5 – 8 port 10/100/1000 Mbps switches such as the following* :
- TP-Link 5-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps switch
- TP-Link Desktop 8-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps switch
- D-Link 5-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps switch
- Tenda 8-Port, 10/100/1000 Mbps switch
- Edimax ES 5-Port 10/100 Mbps switch
- Strictly prohibited:
- the use of wireless routers, access points, or network extenders;
- cutting network cables;
- unplugging or disconnecting university network equipment;
- modifying cable routes or configuring the infrastructure.

3. Prohibited activities
It is prohibited to use the network for:
- illegal activities (hacking, phishing, piracy etc.);
- downloading or sharing copyright-protected content;
- accessing, sharing or storing illegal, violent, pornographic, extremist content etc.;
- running cables from one room to another using the same account (accounts are strictly personal).
4. Permitted use
Without being limited to these, the following activities are allowed:
- access to educational platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Moodle, Microsoft 365);
- institutional communication (email, conferences);
- research activities, scientific projects, academic documentation.

For issues strictly related to internet connectivity within the university, users may contact the Digital Communications Direction (DCDI) of UAIC:

7. Sanctions
Violation of this regulation may result in the following measures:
- written warnings;
- temporary or permanent suspension of network access;
- referral to the faculty or university disciplinary committee;
- expulsion.
